Travel Insurance for the Channel Islands
Make sure you're covered
Tuesday, April 07, 2009
You would think that travel insurance for a trip to the Channel Islands wasn’t really needed - It’s almost a home from home. But things have changed since the start of April because the reciprocal health arrangement which provided some medical treatment for free came to an end. The agreement had been in place since 1976. The Department of Health advises travellers to aquire adequate travel insurance because medical treatment won’t be given for free. The same goes for visitors to the UK from the Channel Islands.
It would have been wise to have travel insurance anyway in case of cancellation or lost baggage but this change means it’s even more important. I’d also expect the cost of travel insurance for Channel Islands to go up - you can’t expect insurers to pick up the tab for medical costs without charging higher premiums.
So if you’re planning a trip don’t forget your travel insurance.
